Iceline & Whaleback Trails

Superb trails with awe-inspiring views (6hrs/17k/hard)

The 7km Iceline Trail from Takakkaw Falls, delivers awe-inspiring views of the Emerald Glacier above and the Daly Glacier across the valley. It can be done as a 14km out-back-hike (695m vertical gain), but you’re better off making it a 17km loop by returning via Laughing Falls and the trail at the base of the Yoho Valley.

Better still is to combine the two with the Whaleback Trail to Twin Falls at the northwestern head of the valley. This makes it one of the best hikes anywhere in the Rockies, but also at least 27km hiking (there are several permutations), so you’ll need to book a backcountry campsite with the Yoho National Park Visitor Centre in advance.
