The North
North Barbados is the least populated and least visited part of the island, yet its rugged, cliff-lined coastline holds great appeal, especially at North Point, where the Atlantic’s crashing waves have carved out some wonderful caves and rock formations. Other parts of the coastline harbour picturesque bays and coves – too rough for swimming but fine for rock-scrambling, picnics and photos.
The most popular destination – at least for families with young kids – is probably the Barbados Wildlife Reserve, home to hundreds of green monkeys and an eclectic assortment of animals. Entry here also gives you access to a short woodland trail that takes you to nearby Grenade Hall, a colonial-era signal station. Just across the main road is Farley Hill National Park. It’s not as grand as it sounds, but is nevertheless a pleasant picnic spot and favourite venue for many of Barbados’ outdoor festivals.
