Beer
A bewitching fishing village framed by chalk cliffs
Beer is one of East Devon’s most delightful spots. The village snakes uphill from a broad beach that’s edged by creamy white cliffs. Fishing boats sit on the pebbles next to the stout wooden logs and winch cables used to hoist them out of the sea.
The beach has cafes, deckchairs and a fish shop set just back from the shore. Signs offering mackerel fishing trips are dotted around.
The cafes and pubs on the village’s main street including the Smuggler’s Kitchen and the Anchor Inn, which boasts a cliff-side beer garden. The impressive Beer Quarry Caves are around a mile up the hill.
Beer is also the mid-way point on our 6-mile circular coast path walk from Branscombe.
