Exeter
With a graceful cathedral, wealth of historic buildings, riverside trails and great restaurants and pubs, Exeter makes an appealing Devon base.
History
Exeter’s been a key city since the Romans set up camp here in about 55 AD. They constructed a defensive city wall, which was built on over the following centuries – an impressive 70% of it remains.
Work on Exeter Cathedral started in 1114 and the building is still surrounded by photogenic Tudor and Georgian architecture.
