Overstrand

Quieter alternative to Cromer

Situated to the south east of Cromer, Overstrand’s beach is wide and sandy at low tide.

It is much quieter than the nearby Cromer beaches, and is popular with swimmers and surfers. There is no lifeguard service, and you need to keep watch on the tide. Check tide tables before visiting and avoid high tide times as the sea will reach right up to the sea wall.

The beach is on the Norfolk Coastal Path and there are pleasant walks to Cromer and southwards to villages like Sidestrand. When using the coastal path, keep away from the cliff edges as they are liable to erosion.

There is a car park and toilets at Overstrand. If you want cafes, you need to leave the beach and walk into the village.

Practical Info Practical Info icon

Access to the beach is via a long, sloping path. Cromer is within walking distance - it takes about half an hour following the road, or cliff top. You can walk along the beach to Cromer but beware of tide times as the tide can change rapidly. The nearest road is the A149, then local roads to Overstrand.
