Norwich’s Cathedrals

Two cathedrals in one city

Norwich is unusual in that it has not one, but two cathedrals.

Norwich Cathedral

The first was built in Norman times, and is set around a pretty cloister, and grounds only a short walk from the river. An Anglican cathedral, it is a very peaceful, relaxing place with an interesting history. Guided tours are held throughout the day. Don’t miss the incredible series of roof bosses visible using mirrors in the nave, and search out the Green Man roof bosses around the Cloister.

The Cathedral of St John the Baptist

The Roman Catholic Cathedral is at the opposite side of the city, and was built in neo-Gothic style during the Victorian period. A beautiful building it has a fantastic collection of fossils to be seen in the columns and steps throughout the cathedral.
