Hatfield House

Jacobean splendour

Hatfield House

Hatfield House is a Jacobean mansion owned by the Marquess of Salisbury with extensive formal gardens and parkland. It contains stunning panelled woodwork and stairs, as well as large colleciotns of pictures, tapestries, furnishings and armour.

Outside are extensive formal gardens that date from the early seventeenth century, and contain a wide range of flowers and trees in varying formal and woodland settings. The parkland contains an oak tree under which Elizabeth I heard that she had become queen. She lived in the Tudor royal palace here as a child.

There are three waymarked walks around the parkland.

Children’s play area, woodland trails and picnic areas.

Special events often held including Christmas Revels and Tudor banquets.
