Charlotte Square & Georgian House

Monumental Georgian plaza

The Georgian House

Along with St Andrew Square at the eastern of George Street, Charlotte Square was designed to be one of the New Town's principle plazas. It surrounds an attractive private garden, which hits its stride as the main venue for August's Edinburgh International Book Festival. At other times it's far less vibrant, but its grand buildings are still among the most important in the city.

Bute House

The vast mansion on the north side of Charlotte Square is centered on Bute House. Though the residence of the First Minister of Scotland, currently Nicola Sturgeon, there's little to suggest its importance outside.
