Old Town-In-A-Day

Exploring Edinburgh's Medieval Labyrinth

Cockburn Street

This core Edinburgh itinerary explores its medieval Old Town, and involves around 30-minutes walking between the attractions mentioned below. However, a couple of these are best booked in advance, so depending on your time-slot you might have some extra walking back-and-forth.

Also don’t try to fit in all the attractions below – that’s nearly impossible in a day. Instead select the most appealing given your interests and the weather.

Old Town-in-a-day Route

Morning

Start at Edinburgh Castle, the city’s historical hub that’s now an expensive but worthwhile attraction. It’s at the top of the Royal Mile - a series of roads that together lead to the Palace of Holyroodhouse.
