Mary King's Close & Ghost Tours
Ghostly tales on foot
Edinburgh is full of medieval streets that lend themselves to tall stories and ghostly tales.
Several companies offer both ghost and historic tours and some have access to underground sections of the city, including Mary King's Close – a fascinating underground street sealed up in 1646 after its inhabitants died of the plague.
This was only one of a cramped and disease-ridden warren of streets below the Royal Mile which housed the city's population until the 18th-century.
Booking is recommended, particularly at peak times (weekends, high summer, New Year and Halloween) and only kids over 5 are allowed on any tours, which are in any case best enjoyed children over about 9.

This entry is located at offices of The Real Mary King's Close – many other tours leave from the square opposite.
