Café Royal
Glorious Victorian pub & seafood restaurant (l,d; ££)
This lovely airy circle bar lies rather hidden in a side-street, but bursts with elegance in its stained glass, Victorian plasterwork and brasses.
All this sets the scene for very cheerful spot for drinkers young and old.
And most people are here to drink, even though the restaurant specialises in great seafood dishes (mains around £21). Its Scottish supper (£45/person) is a six-course delight for anyone keen to sample the national cuisine.
