Pubs, Clubs & Drinking

Sherlock Holmes Restaurant

Edinburgh has no end of pubs. Hanging out in them is part of the local culture and usually has nothing to do with hard-drinking.

Pubs generally close at around 1am, though hours are extended during the August festival season.

New Town

with many central atmospheric ones dotting Rose Street in the New Town. Meanwhile, a block uphill, George Street is lined with the city's most fashionable bars.

Very central, but hidden on a side street opposite the Balmoral Hotel, is Cafe Royal, a stylish Victorian pub.

Gay nightlife is centered around a "Pink Triangle" in Broughton & Calton.
