Jardin Albert 1st
A haven for locals & tourists alike
The Albert I Garden (Jardin Albert I) green space created in 1852, sits at the eastern end of the Promenade des Anglais. This green haven lies surrounded by the avenue des Phocéens, Place Messéna, avenue de Verdun and of course ‘le Prom’. Despite this, it provides a haven for locals and tourists to relax away from the bustle of the city.
The garden was laid out in the Italian style with its Tritons fountain and artificial cave.
Two important monuments
More recent additions to the garden include the Centennial Monument erected in 1896 to celebrate the centenary of Nice’s annexation to France in 1792. Moreover, it can now boast the 19m/62ft long Monumental Arc de Venet. Created by the French Contemporary sculptor Bernar Venet the Niçois erected the statue on the central lawn in 1988 .
