Quimperlé
A pretty town with two centres
Quimperlé is located in the south of Finistére just a few kilometres to the east of Pont-Aven and Concarneau. A pretty town with old cobbled streets and half-timbered houses, it is well worth spending a couple of hours exploring.
There are two centres - the upper town and the lower town. The lower town lies at the confluence of the Ellé, Isole and Laïta Rivers - the latter is tidal and leads down to the Bay of Biscay. It is dominated by the ancient Romanesque Abbey of Ste Croix (12th C., partially rebuilt 1862) modelled on the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem and rue Dom Morice lined with 16th C. half timbered, corbelled houses.
The upper town is dominated by the 13th/15th C. church of Nôtre -Dame de-l’Assumption with its square tower. Nearby is the 17th C. Chapelle des Ursulines
