Musée National Marc Chagall
Marc Chagall Museum Nice
Located high up in the Cimiez district of Nice this museum dating from 1972 dedicated to the works of Marc Chagall contains the most important permanent collection of his work including paintings, sculptures, stained glass windows, and mosaics.
Chagall, an early modernist who was associated with several styles, was Russian-French. He came from a Jewish family and his works were largely inspired by religion.
Much admired by and a great friend of Picasso, they fell out towards the end of their lives although Picasso continued to consider him to be one of the greatest exponents of colour since Renoir!
