Peloponnese
Located in the southern Greek mainland, the Peloponnese region of Greece is by far the most visited – and it’s no surprise with its vast range of beaches, mountains, historic coastal towns such as Nafplio and the castle town of Monemvasia, and even ski centres.
Regular flights from Athens or some European destinations to the airport in Kalamata, or from Athens to Patra.
There are several ports in the Peloponnese, Patra being the largest with ferries from Italy and Corfu, Kefalonia and Ithaca–all Ionian islands making a mixture of Ionian island hopping and the mainland a possibility.
Bus: from Athens takes just over 3 hours to reach the area.
Trains: are not direct. From Athens take the suburban train to Kiato then change onto the intercity train to Patra–the largest city in the region, driving will take you approx. 3 hours over the magnificent Corinth Canal.
