Santorini

Santorini, Greece

Everyone’s heard of Santorini–it’s the Greek island favourite with its white washed houses and blue domed churches so atypical of Greece. Also known as Thira–the official name of the island actually and named after a crater on Mars, probably because of Santorini’s submerged volcano. What remains today is part of one of the world's biggest volcanic eruptions nearly 3,500 years ago.

It’s famous for its sunset views over the volcano, small villages perched atop the caldera of the volcano, especially the village of Oia, the northernmost village and also linked to the myth of Atlantis.

Santorini

Its volcanic landscape make for beaches such as Red Beach - Santorini with its famous red sands and warm waters.

Beautiful sunsets and the plethora of boutique hotels and bars make Santorini the romantic or honeymoon destination for couples.

Many European Charter flights fly to Santorini at the height of the tourist season, or connect from Athens by plane.

For those who like to make travelling a part of the whole experience, a very pleasant yet long ferry ride from Piraeus port is possible. Or connect from other Cycladic islands if island hopping.
