Kastoria
The Lake Jewel of Northern Greece
Only one hour 15 mins from Nymfaio and the Arcturos Bear and Wolf Sanctuary, Kastoria in Greece’s north western tip is, with good reason, known as the lakeside jewel.
It sits on Lake Orestiada; a 28 sq km lake framed by Grammos and Vitsi mountains, lakeside mansions, Byzantine churches and a Dragon’s Cave just outside of the town. Expect to see swans, silver pelicans, herons and many other species of water birds nesting here.
Stroll along the lake’s promenade, explore the old village, take a boat trip out to the small island or take part in water sports such as canoeing or rafting. See Kastoria Outdoors.
History, architecture, nature – it’s a beautiful part of Northern Greece to visit.
