Central-Mid-Levels Escalator

World's longest covered escalator system

Hong Kong Island has some killer hills, Ladder Street being a good case in point. Thus it was with some celebration that residents living in the Mid-Levels welcomed the debut of the Central-Mid-Levels Escalator, making the trek to and from Central much less burdensome.

Stretching from the corner of Des Voeux Road Central and Jubilee Street in what was formerly the Central Market, the Central-Mid-Levels Escalator stretches 2,600 ft/800m to Conduit Road in the Mid-Levels. Despite its name, it’s not one long escalator but rather a series of escalators and moving sidewalks served by 29 entrances and exits. It takes about 20 minutes to cover its length, though most people walk the moving escalator to save time.
