Decatur County known for its 19th century courthouse with a tree growing out of its mansard roof, has many rural delights including a round barn, covered bridge as well as the amazing nearby Streamcliff Farm Herb Farm which also has a winery and is so called because the 1850s farmhouse sits high on a ridge overlooking a stream.

The home was invaded by General John Hunt Morgan and his raiders on their foray across southeastern Indiana during the Civil War, the only Civil War battle in the state.

But that’s not the only connection to the Civil War for Decatur County.

The 1859 Decatur County Courthouse in Historic Tower Tree Square in Greensburg was the site of the State of Indiana vs. Luther Donnell who was sued for helping a slave named Caroline and her four children, ages 12 to 2, escape.

Strauther Pleak built his uniquely designed round barn in 1911 on an 80 care homestead, sits in Washington Township outside of Greensburg, Indiana and resembles a three-tier cake and features a double cupola.
