Buffalo Run
Lincoln Slept Here
On his way to the Huffman Mill, Abraham Lincoln may have slept in the cabin on land of what is now Buffalo Run Farm, Grill & Gifts in Lincoln City. The cabin, probably an inn when Lincoln spent the night, was restored by the owners of the farm and it's a basic affair – but then that was what life was like in Little Pigeon Creek back in the 1820s.
The spot where it sits is fitting as this was once part of a long Buffalo run where vast herds made their way between the Wabash River and the Ohio River.
To recreate that pioneer experience, one can actually see a herd of buffalo from the front door of the cabin. Buffalo burgers are on the menu.
Buffalo Run is situated on property where Lincoln's cousin Dennis Hanks lived. Hanks, who was a nephew of Nancy Hanks Lincoln, married Lincoln's stepsister Elizabeth Johnston and moved with the Lincolns to Illinois in 1830.
