The Almoravid Koubba
Morocco's sole surviving Almoravid building - القبة المرابطية
The Almoravid Koubba (aka Qubbat Ba'adiyin) is only small, but it's arguably the city's most interesting monument.
Dating from 1117, the Almoravid Koubba is the only surviving building in Marrakesh – indeed in the whole of Morocco – to have been erected by the city's founders, the Almoravids.
Koubba (or more correctly, qubba) means a building with a dome.
A little white kiosk on the south side of Place Ben Youssef (Place de la Kissaria), the koubba must have been associated with the Almoravids' original Ben Youssef Mosque. It was probably used for wudu (washing hands, face and feet before prayer).
