Le Trou au Mur
Fine Moroccan cuisine that's proper old-school (l,d; $$$)
The idea behind Le Trou au Mur is to revive Moroccan recipes that are nowadays rarely made, even in people's homes.
They do serve conventional Moroccan dishes (couscous of the day 140–170dh) and Western comfort food (shepherd's pie 150dh), but the main point of the restaurant is to revive Moroccan dishes that are proper old-school – dishes that people's grandparents might have eaten.
Top choices for starters include tihane (offal stuffed with minced lamb, 85dh) and cherchma (beans and lentils in a spicy sauce with wholemeal couscous, 75dh).
The most popular main course is mechoui (slow-roast lamb – for a fuller description see our review of Mechoui Alley; 150–165dh), with a choice of cuts (leg the leanest, shoulder the fattiest but most flavoursome) and a choice of modern or traditional sauces.
