Café Atlas
Café outside, bar inside, food too (b,l,d; $)
As its name suggests, Café Atlas is a café. But it's a café with a secret: pop inside and it also serves alcohol.
Established in 1945, Café Atlas is one of a trio of grand cafés on Place Abdelmoumen, the epicentre of downtown Guéliz, with the Café des Negotiants across Avenue Mohammed V, and the Café Rennaissance across Boulevard Mohammed Zerktouni. For a coffee and croissant, the Negotiants is a tad posher, but the Atlas will do you a perfectly fine one on its pavement terrace just as well, and the food is good too.
What the Atlas really has on its competitors however is the fact that it serves alcohol (inside only). It also has a big screen which shows important sports matches, so you can watch them here with a beer. Moreover, if you're eating, so long as you stay inside, you can have beer or wine with your meal.
Food and alcoholic drinks are inexpensive at the Atlas (pizzas 35–60dh, small beer from 20dh), although you can find cheaper coffee elsewhere if you're counting the pennies. Wi-fi is free.
