1669–1912: Alaouite

Chez Ali, Marrakesh

The current king’s family, the Alaouites, took Marrakesh in 1669. It was never their capital. None the less, towards the end of the nineteenth century in particular, a number of impressive palatial mansions were built in the city.

Nineteenth-century mansions which can be visted include the Bahia Palace, and Dar Mnebhi, which houses the Marrakesh Museum, and Dar Si Said.
