Marrakesh Museum

Fabulous nineteenth-century mansion - متحف مراكش

Marrakesh Museum

Don't go into the Marrakesh Museum expecting extensive displays of historical artifacts or archeological finds. Do however expect to see a fabulous nineteenth-century palace that's much more interesting than its exhibits.

03 Marrakech - Musee Dar Si Said -32

The palace belonged to Mehdi Mnebhi, who was Morocco's defence minister at the end of the nineteenth century. It was restored and opened as a museum in 1997.

The main atrium is absolutely beautiful, with a little fountain in the middle, a huge brass chandelier over it, and lots of great zellij tilework, stucco and finely painted woodwork.
