Avenida Paseo de la Reforma
Main avenue to downtown
The broad Avenida Paseo de la Reforma was constructed in the 1860s to connect the city center with Chapultepec Castle, the official residence of Emperor Maximilian I during the French intervention.
Reforma, as the avenue is known, is lined with restaurants, important monuments such as the Ángel de la Independencia victory column, and towering skyscrapers (the 38th-floor bar in the Sofitel hotel affords sweeping views of the city).
Every Sunday from 8am to 2pm, Reforma is closed to traffic for bicyclists and joggers.
