Place Jean-Paul Riopelle
Magical Montreal Moment
Place Jean-Paul Riopelle is best known for its centerpiece fountain by Jean-Paul Riopelle: La Joute (The Joust), involves thirty rough-hewn bronzes which are enveloped in jets, mist and flames on every evening (except in winter).
It was apparently conceived by Riopelle as an homage to his boyhood hockey heroes and was originally located in Montreal Olympic Park as a feature for the 1976 Summer Olympic Games.
But it certainly doesn't look out of place here, with the multicoloured facade of the Palais des Congrès providing a very fine backdrop.
