Quartier International
The small district known as Quartier International, acts as a bridge between Downtown, Chinatown and Old Montreal and is if often held up as a poster-child for urban renewal.
Here, between 2000-2003, a wasteland of parking lots and an hold highway trench were transformed into a pleasant business quarter, book-ended by two fine squares.
At the southern end, Square Victoria sports a bronze of Queen Victoria herself as well, as a glorious Art Nouveau Metro entrance, built for the Paris system but donated to Montreal for its metro's opening in 1967.
Meanwhile at the northern end of the district, Place Jean-Paul Riopelle, showcases an intriguing fountain by the eponymous artist.
