Downtown
With Montreal's only cluster of skyscrapers, Downtown, or Centre-Ville, is easy to find. As the city's commercial hub this is where the lion's share of its shopping is.
And though shopping and offices tend to drive the Business District there is fun to be had here after hours too, thanks to a good selection of places to eat and drink.
Many of these are dotted around an area whose density of mansions and sheer wealth once earned it the nickname The Golden Square Mile.
One of Downtown's oddities is that half its street-life occurs indoors and often underground in a so-called Underground City, a labyrinth of malls and concourses that connect major buildings.
