Perthshire In-A-Day

Perth to Aviemore

Perthshire

This itinerary travels north from the fairly unremarkable regional town of Perth. It follows the A9, the main road that winds through Perthshire's leafy rolling hills, to the barren beauty of the Highlands around Aviemore and Cairngorm National Park. Trains run the length of the route, making the trip possible by public transport too.

Perthshire and Cairngorms

This itinerary involves 85miles/2hrs of driving. Make it a glorious loop through the backroads of Cairngorm National Park via Tomintoul and you'll be looking at 192miles/4.5hrs.

Morning

A good first stop is the pretty little village Dunkeld, with its attractive collection of minor historic sites and peaceful air. A short drive north lies the small town of Pitlochry, a popular regional pit-stop, that lies close to the pretty nearby gorge of Killiekrankie, which is ideal for a pleasant stroll.
