Shops & Shopping

Shops in the centre of York are a mixture of national chain store branches (e.g. Coney Street), boutique shops (for example in the areas round Grape Lane, Fossgate and Shambles) and smaller local establishments (such as Duttons for Buttons, Barnitts, Fairer World).

There is one larger supermarket just outside the walls (Sainsbury's in Fossbank) and several convenience stores around the city centre (such Tesco Express at 9-11 High Ousegate).

Other shopping centres with supermarkets are out of town, for example at Clifton Moor, or Monks Cross (bus number 13).

York Designer Outlet is a factory outlet complex on the outskirts of the city at Fulford (Number 7 bus, Red Line Park and Ride bus).

There's also a good selection of markets with all kinds of low-price goods, varying on different days.
