York's Chocolate Story

A fun look at chocolatey history

York is one of Britain's historic centres for chocolate making: So much so, that the chocolate industry became one of the city's major employers in the ninteenth and twentieth centuries.

This venue now aims to provide an entertaining take on York's relationship to chocolate. One of York's newest venues for visitors, it sets out to be a family attraction rather than a museum.

Guided tours are available every 15 minutes. Costumed guides and fancy-dress actors representing the Rowntree, Terry and Craven dynasties emphasise the York angle.

An audio-visual presentation sets out history of chocolate, with a virtual chocolate factory to give accessible information.

Reckon on £12.50 (children £10) for admission.

A chocolate-themed café is provided to round off the visitor experience ...

TIME Allow around 1 1/2 hours
