West Cornwall
In west Cornwall the county feels more than a little wild. Coal-black cliffs plummet into an azure sea; wind-buffeted moors sweep inland. Dotted all around are golden beaches, fishing ports and ruined mines.
On the north coast, St Ives is awash with art, fine food and sandy bays. Some 10 miles west, the industrial heritage around Levant Mine brings a harsh past vividly to life.
Just a few miles from Land’s End, Sennen offers England’s most westerly surf break. Some 5 miles south, Porthcurno has a gorgeous beach, the cliff-side Minack amphitheatre and, in PK Porthcurno, an intriguing communications museum.
The glorious, geothermally-heated art deco Jubilee Pool graces Penzance’s waterfront. Just off shore a fantastical castle clings to a tidal island – the don’t-miss sight of St Michael’s Mount.
And stretching out to the south, the Lizard Peninsula delivers breathtaking beaches, sublime seafood and unbeatable sunset skies.
