The Abri Pataud Shelter at Les Eyzies
The Pataud shelter is located in the village of Les Eyzies, not far from the Musée National de la Préhistoire, 15m/49ft above the Vézère river on a cliff face which dominates the village.
Abri Pataud is the only prehistoric site in the Périgord which is also a museum containing bones and flints were discovered during excavation work. There are 14 layers of archaeology and even the remains of a fireplace!
Don’t miss: While in the area be sure to visit the Musée National, the Abri de Cro-Magnon, the Abri du Poisson and the Grotte du Roc de Cazelle. If you need refreshments after all this the try the Café de la Mairie just below the Musée.
