Elafonissi Beach
White sand & pink waters in Crete
Shallow waters, white sands and crushed shell powder giving a pinky glow makes this beach in Western Crete unique in every way.
It’s an organised beach with sunbeds, umbrellas, food and drink from the canteens and is excellent for families with small children due to its shallow waters.
Great for wildlife spotting too as many birds use it as a migratory stop off point when heading to warmer southern climbs.
VERY busy in July / August high season, so go early.
45 miles / 72 km South West of the port town of Chania.
Best way to reach is by car - free parking.
WARNING: The mountainous road is single track in a lot of places so not for the faint hearted.
BUS: It’s possible to travel by local KTEL bus from Chania – the trip takes about 2.5 hours each way so you’d need to leave early – 9am.
