Pelion
Mountains dotted with tiny villages
What makes the Pelion region of Thessaly so unique is its mixture of mountain villages with houses made from local stone, preserving its authenticity, hiking trails and beautiful beaches, meaning it’s a perfect year round destination.
Volos is the regional town capital–almost equal distance between
Athens and Thessaloniki and is a lively harbour town with many tavernas and cafes.
It’s also the port where you’d travel to the Sporades islands.
Villages
There are over 40 small villages and settlements in Pelion–Makrinitsa, Portaria, Miles, Vizitsa and Tsagarada are the main ones with quaint churches and houses atypical of the area as well as small shops selling local honey and marmalades made by local people.
