Centro Histórico
With more than 1,500 historic buildings the 668-block historic center is chock-full of absorbing sights.
The ancient ruins of Templo Mayor, once the center of the Aztec universe, lie just next door to imposing colonial buildings such as Palacio Nacional and Catedral Metropolitana, both of which were built atop the ancient Aztec city of Tenochtitlán.
The Centro’s abundant museums, public art and buzzing shopping districts are best explored on foot. If you’re arriving by Metro, the Zócalo, Bellas Artes and Allende stations put you smack in the middle of the action.
