Bars, Clubs & Nightlife

Montreal arguably has the best nightlife in Canada and certainly there's much more than can comfortably be covered here in any depth.

Below are a few reliable spots for a drink and some music. If you'd rather just head to a nightlife area and browse, then there are basically four:

  • The Latin Quarter along St Denis and behind the Grande Bibliothèque Nationale. Attracts a youngish, largely Francophone crowd.
  • The Gay Village is clearly a LBG+ favorite, but has plenty of bars where you won't feel awkward if you're straight. The summertime street closure of St. Catherine here helps the party atmosphere.
  • Crescent Street in Downtown is the go-to place for Anglophone nightlife and caters to all ages.
  • Avenue Mount Royal in The Plateau has many options too, though many have a slightly more neighbourhood feel than the other, more central, options.
