East Devon Coast
The River Exe flows south out of Exeter past the port of Topsham and the remote Turf pub, broadening as it meats the sea.
From here the coast surges east in a line of russet cliffs. This section of shore is part of the 95-mile UNESCO World Heritage site Jurassic Coast. Boat trips cruise beside the cliffs.
Much of the East Devon shore is 250 million year old red sandstone, but at the pretty villages of Branscrombe and Beer creamy white limestone emerges, setting the scene for some cracking hikes.
