Walks & Hiking
Edinburgh is a great city for hikers of all ambitions and abilities, with a few good walks in the centre and even more on the outskirts.
Central options
For just a casual stroll, look no further than the city's Parks & Gardens, which all sport ideal picnic spots too.
For a more involved walk, try the most central part of The Water of Leith, by following the Water-of-Leith Wander itinerary.
Cross-town routes
Walking the entire Water of Leith is a far bigger mission, but among Edinburgh's best linear walks, which also include two legs of the John Muir Trail across town: South Queensferry to Edinburgh and Edinburgh to Prestonpans. Or make your own way along the coast between Crammond Island and Portobello Beach – which both have nice
promenades to explore.
